Milton Cobo's Biography

![]() |
Milton Cobo, of Colombian
descent, was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was blessed
with 3 loving parents (mother, father, and only brother), who sacrificed
themselves to give him a wonderful childhood, full of endless resources.
Ironically enough, Latin music and dance were resources Milton never took
advantage of throughout his adolescent years. Despite the influences of
his father, a dancer and collector of Latin music for over 30 years, mother,
also a dancer, and brother, who danced before he could even walk, Milton
(now in his late teens) despised the thought of dancing to Latin music.

Milton found his true passion in dancing Salsa after he graduated from college (Rutgers University, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering) and moved to North Carolina with his brother (James), at the age of 22. With his brother by his side, Milton was able to overcome many obstacles, and take his dancing to a professional level. He spent the first 3 months learning from video tapes and practicing with his brother, starting "On 1", and eventually developed his ability to dance "On 2". Since day one, Milton's dancing had a strong NY influence, but living in North Carolina enabled him to develop a unique sophisticated funk. Although he initially concentrated on mastering the technique of leading, he eventually began focusing on his footwork and body movement as well. Since the beginning of his dance career, Milton has thrived on satisfying his partner on the dance floor. Whether she was a beginner, intermediate, or advanced dancer, he wanted to make sure that when the song was over she was fulfilled. His addiction to Salsa has always been tremendous, but his ultimate high/addiction has always come from the sincere look of content gleaming from his partner's smile (thinking to herself, "when will be the next time we dance?"). Within his first 3 years of dancing, Milton accomplished much more then he ever thought possible. He traveled to cities throughout North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, teaching Salsa (Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, Austin, DC, NY, Toronto, Montreal, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Paris, and San Juan, to name a few). He and his brother gave birth to "The CoboBrothers". Most importantly, he learned to fully appreciate Salsa dancing as an art, whether On 1 or 2, LA or NY, Cuban or Colombian, beginner or advanced... Although Milton still had plenty to learn, the ability to appreciate various interpretations of the art of dancing Salsa was his biggest accomplishment at that point. His biggest challenge now, is managing his life as an engineer (in RTP, North Carolina) and his life as a world traveling instructor/performer. "I would like to give special thanks to Claudio and Lisset (Miami), Kelli and Amalia (Atlanta), Amy (LA), Amanda (DC/NY), Samantha and Beryl (NY), and my parents Manuel, Luz and James. You have all helped me become the person that I am today, on and off the dance floor. Thank you very much." With much love, |
